something different & interesting..

...for dinner tonight?

we are all lamma'ed, chung king'ed, wan chai'ed, central'ed, stanley'ed and skek o'ed out.

Anyone suggest something a little bit different for 5 or 6 people. Could be down and dirty local style or not...we are open to anything.

much appreciated!

Just curious. What did you end up trying this eve?

I went to Yellow Door last night. My second time there and it was just so so. Pretty expensive at 400.00 pp incl drinks.
The lights were dim sum restaurant bright which puts me off too.

Probably too late .. one of my favorite restaurants is Reflexion ... on the 12th floor of Sogo. Good european food with a lot of asian touches. The owner Jacky Kagi is fanatical about good food.

Unfortunately it suffers from being in a not so good location.

Thanks KIA - will check it out. For anyone that is interested we ended up on the 2nd floor of the North Point Wet Market. Some of the best food we have had in HK! We went with a cantonese speaker luckily but you can get by without one...just!

Wow, North Point wet market, would never have thought of that!

My fave HK restaurant is Mirepoix (French)- not outrageously "different" but just seems to have that subtlety that some HK restaurants lack.

I agree that Yellow Door is only so so. When we went they'd taken on way too many tables, staff were stressed and overstretched and the food was ok but not worth going back. Maybe it's just a bit overhyped.

Oh, I forgot! For something REALLY different for a group, Cuisine X in Yuen Long. It's dinner in a living room in a small village (no road access, you walk throught the village to get there). A zillion amazing courses, many cooked in the owner's handmade clay ovens.

Thanks Esque. Will check it out. By the way, there are apparently 3 wet markets in the NP area (or so I have been told) so the one we went to is the Java Road one. Don't want anyone ending up at another one :-)

One of the best food experiences I've had in HK was in Cru in SOHO. The place is small so service is good and the food was way better than most western places I've been to and far better than the 5 star hotel places.
