| | | work days calculation - HELP! am i getting screwed? My situation is as follows:
I just started my job on Sept 25, and for my first pay cheque the company is paying me until the end of Sept.
I figured that I would receive a % of my monthly salary based on the number of work days in the month, ie.
5 days worked/21 work days in sept = about 24%
Instead, I've been paid 20% because they calculated:
6 total days in sept since beginning of month/30 days in sept total = 20%
They have said that this is standard in Hong Kong, is this true or am I getting screwed? It seems a bit odd to me.
Please help quickly so I can complain promptly if need be...

| | | Generally, employers pay full-time employees you for public holidays. For payroll they normally take the whole calendar month as the basis for pro-rata calculations. I would say that their calculation is correct. Ofcourse, contractors and sub-contractors are paid differently. | |

| | | i think it depends on industry and practises.
i don't think there is a very definite format how the days are counted.

| | | hmm interesting.
i know for sure in singapore it can be computed based on work days, or based on calender days.
come to think about it, what you said might be true for hk. my first 10 days of working was paid on calender days.

| | | spaceman, in time you'll learn that it's not for nothing that HK is considered a very "business-friendly" place. | |

| | | Spaceman,
I was paid the same way. Started on 15th Aug and the company paid me for 16 days. I would think this is a fairer way to pro rate salary. Basically taking salary dividing by the number of days in the month and then multiply by the number of days worked including public holidays and weekends.

actually i think this part is impartial. e.g. if you start work on the 23rd dec then u get paid from 23~31. even though u have christmas and etc in the calender. so in such situation the business are penalized more.
