Any internet cafes?

Is it easy to find internet cafes, since I don't have an internet access during my visit next week?

There are plenty around, although most are aimed at the local gamer market (except those that are fronts for "other services").

I think most visitors tend to use places like the Pacific Coffee branches, which all have free terminals and wifi.

The FCC also has workstations and stuff which you could use. You should get in touch with them in advance and see if they would extend some sort of temporary membership to you given your role in Finland.

You can also go to the big public library opposite Victoria Park where you can access the internet for free.

I've heard of massage parlours, saunas, "nightclubs" and hairdressers being fronts for "other services", but internet cafes????? I can't see the link? Please do tell...

Well here's an article from the SCMP on a court case:

"Monday March 7 2005

Undercover officer worked for 3 months with underage prostitutes

Alex Lo

Lawyers and legislators have raised questions about an undercover police operation that allowed about a dozen underage girls to continue working as prostitutes for three months while officers gathered evidence.

This came after the acquittal of racing car driver Michael Lui Man-ho last month on two underage sex charges at an internet cafe targeted in the anti-vice operation.

An undercover officer, who worked as a waiter at the Jordan cafe for three months, testified in court that he knew about a dozen girls under the age of 16 offering sexual services at the cafe.

Barrister and legislator Ronny Tong Ka-wah said the issue of entrapment had received scant attention from the court and police.

'Aside from questions of fairness to the suspect, it's an especially tricky problem when underage persons are involved,' said Mr Tong, a former Bar Association chairman. 'I agree police need to take a clearer stand and have clearer guidelines in such operations for the protection of underage persons.

'It's the duty of an officer to stop crime, but in entrapment, you are encouraging, or at least allowing, a person to commit a crime. This is a very fine line.'

Lawmaker and senior barrister Audrey Eu Yuet-mee said: 'Putting aside legal and moral issues, our first gut instinct is to protect children, especially in cases of underage prostitution. Everyone has a duty, especially police officers, to prevent offences from being committed against [children].'

In his testimony against Lui, 44, the undercover officer said that in the three months he worked at the cafe from October 9, 2003, about 10 to 15 girls were under 16 and 20 to 30 above that age.

Jeff Booth, Mr Lui's solicitor in the trial, said: 'I think common sense would conclude that the undercover officer knew there were underage girls working.'

Police said they would not comment on operational matters, and the Security Bureau also refused to respond to questions.

Legco security panel member Lau Kong-wah said undercover police work was dangerous and required quick judgments.

'We need to determine in that court case whether it was safe or effective for the officer to blow his cover,' he said. 'These are very delicate questions.'"
