| Need help locating Oregon Scientific cordless phone After visiting HK last month (august 2006) I regret not having bought a really cool and stylish cordless phone which I can't seem to find anywhere else which I really wanted. I saw it displayed in several of the official Oregon Scientific stores, but neither their international website nor their HK site has any information on it, and emails sent to both the HK office as well as the main office have yet to be replied, so I'm really getting nowhere which is why I hope someone here can help me There are Oregon Scientific stores many places in HK. Here's a complete list which I found here: Prince Building Concept Store Shop 108-109, Prince's Building, Central Tel: 852-21872333 Fax: 852-21872383 Working Hours: 10am - 7pm (Mon - Sat) IFC Concept Store Shop 1025A, IFC Mall, Central Tel: 852-22953198 Fax: 852-22953199 Working Hours: 10am - 8pm Times Square Concept StoreShop 817, Times Square, Central Tel: 852-21110703 Fax: 852-21110502 Working Hours: 10am - 9:30pm Ocean Center Concept Store Shop 302, Ocean Center, TsimShaTsui Tel: 852-31019166 Fax: 852-31019109 Working Hours: 11am - 9pm Cyberport Concept StoreThe Arcade Shop 106, Cyberport, Pok Fu Lam Tel: 852-29896001 Fax: 852-26959001 Working Hours: 10am - 8pm New Town Plaza Concept Store Shop 619-620, New Town Plaza, Shatin Tel: 852-26959001 Fax: 852-26959002 Working Hours: 11am - 9pm About the phone itself: It's a cordless phone in a very stylish, modern design. It's black and has an LCD with a blue backlight as well as number buttons that are lit up in the same blue colour, or comes with a red backlit LCD display and red buttons. I believe it cost just over HK$ 1000, something like $ 1100 or $ 1200, but don't quote me on the exact price. If someone in HK reading this could tell me the model name/number and price I could try to see if it can be bought here, or even better -perhaps some Oregon Scientific store in HK would be willing to send it overseas if it's not sold anywhere else. Anyway, I find it strange that the phone was displayed at several of their concept stores (I believe I visited the one in IFC mall as well as Ocean Centre) but yet I can't find it at their website. I think I also saw it at G.O.D. in Ocean terminal, but their website isn't of much help either. I assume it was made by Oregon Scientific, but perhaps their concept stores are selling another brand as well !?! I'd be very grateful if someone in HK could check it out for me if they're passing by those shops anyway. Thanks Last edited by pacman; 22-09-2006 at 03:11 PM. |

| This forum is a lifesaver! Based on a private reply I've now found the model number and a (not so good) photo of the phone which I'm 99.9% sure is the one I'm looking for (the photos are so bad it's hard to tell): http://www.go2hk.com/inventory/bid/b...temId=10042983 The same phone comes in two variations as far as I can remember: -blue light for the LCD and buttons -red light for the LCD and buttons Based on the above link the phone is an Oregon Scientific OS-1820L "DECT touch screen DECT phone" (though I certainly can't remember it having a touch-screen, but rather touch-buttons!). If you could ask the in the store it would be great: -model number (in case the above is incorrect) -price -confirm that it's available in red or blue backlighting -where I can find more information/specifications (I need to know the transmitting frequency for instance, to be sure it won't cause any problems here, and also if the screen is a touch-screen or not). Is there some hidden web-page at the Oregon Scientific (HK) site? -if they can accept payment from abroad and send? Thanks a million! |

| DECT phones are sold in the USA and Canada. They tend to operate at 2.4GHz and very few (if any) operate at the newer 5.8GHz. |

| Who sells them in Canada? Or are they a niche item (unlike HK) or go by some other name? Asked about it last summer for gift for our hosts at the usual suspects, Future Shop, Costco, BestBuy, FactoryDirect (The Radio Shack shops in the Toronto malls seem to have disappeared) and drew a blank (stare, even). Cordless, FHSS, DSS, etc etc but no mention of the expression DECT. So discobay, a lead would be appreciated. Will make a dandy next year's gift for our same hosts. | What's the name of the downtown shopping centre in Vancouver? - I've only been there once - I saw them there in atleast three shops. One was on the lower level next to a pair of escalators. It looked like a Radio Shack but wasn't. It sold radio-controlled cars, mobile phones, DECT phones and other gadgets. |
