Yes broadband TV does affect the download speed. Pccw gives you 5mbs and broadband tv takes away 4mbs so it leaves your 1mbs for internet.

For you to recieve the rull 5mbs you need to manually turn off the broadband tv box, if you do it with the remote it will not work.

So the only way around it is if you have two lines and have connection from both. That is what i'm doing at home and if I go to a US site or d/l for anywhere i cap 4.87mbs.

If you have what they call a "standalone" now tv on a second tv, does that affect your connection on the computer that is connected to the internet/now tv decoder? To be clearer : do I need to turn off both decoders? Thanks.

No you don't - the standalone system is coming down a completely separate ADSL pipe.
