Hi, I am looking to move to HK and seek work as an English teacher.
Although unqualified and inexperieced I understand that you can still find work. Is this the case?
Would anybody have or know where I could find a list of schools or teacher agencies and language schools which I could contact?

Paxton,

To some extent that may be true, but most schools now insist on a formal teaching qualification. Even something as basic as a TEFL/TESOL certificate is now considered mandatory.

Your best bet is to try the classified pages of the SCMP or HK Magazine. Maybe try contacting the British Council for temp posts/jobs....

What are the chances of finding work, by just arriving in HK with nothing lined up. (with no working visa)?
I've heard that some schools may employ you illeagally. (Is this risky?)
I have a friend who could put me up for a short while so that's one less burden.

illegal employment? VERY risky......

try going through teaching sites, like www.eslcafe.com and other related sites for job posts...

Hi there, If you are 'unqualified and inexperienced' why can you be able to teach English as a second language? What can you offer to a school? You speak English, but can you teach? Do you know how to plan a lesson(PPP model, Task Based Learning, ESA)?? Just thinking you can teach English as a second language because you can speak English is crazy!

As a teacher you have the obligation to teach your learners correct and studied methods of TEFL.

No wonder that HK students (and many Asian countries) start learning the English language with a poor teacher!!

Can I add that perhaps Korea and Taiwan might be better options than HK.

Its easier to get employed to teach conversational english in those countries.
