| Hello Geo's New and Old, I have been here for 7 months now, and I have yet to make it to see the Big Buddha. I would love to go with some company, so who is up for it? When? Saturady 30 September 2006 Time? 11:00 am Departing: From Central Pier No. 6 (near Central's Star Ferry Pier or MTR's Hong Kong Station), catch a ferry to Lantau Island's Mui Wo (Fast Ferry takes 40 minutes, Normal Ferry takes 60 minutes). Then we will take a 25 minutes ride on the newly opened Ngong Ping Skyrail (HK$88 return ticket.), before climbing the 268 steps to the statue. We can have a vegetarian lunch at the Po Lin Monastery, or you can bring your own, and we can stroll around the Ngong Ping Village. On the way back we could catch the ferry again or the Tung Chung MTR line to Hong Kong Island. So sign up here, if you would like to go. Hope to see you soon, it should be fun. Ballerina |

| Er, you've got your geography wrong. Getting the ferry to Mui Wo is going to leave about 10km (and a BFM - big mountain) between you and the Cable Car. You need to get the MTR to Tung Chung to get Ngong Ping 360. And it's spelt "Buddha". Last edited by PDLM; 21-09-2006 at 10:24 AM. |

So I guess our meeting point should be the Tung Chung Line at Hong Kong MTR staion. |

| No worries - unfortunately I will be out of town that weekend, so I'm going to have to wait a while to try the cable car. You can get to the Buddha via Mui Wo, but it requires a bus (about 40mins) or a taxi (a little less) or a hike (about 3.5-4.5 hours depending on fitness, temperature and whether you go over the hills or round them) to get to the Buddha from there. You maybe need to decide whether you want to get the cable car both ways or one way. f one waythe which? I would guess upwards. And then go there via the MTR and cable car and back via the bus and ferry. |

| better plan PDLM, that sounds like a much better plan, thanks for the suggestions. So we take the MTR to the Skyrail on the way up, and then on the way back down we could take the bus and then still do the ferry ride back to Central Of course for those who do not like the bus or ferry, they could alwasy go back by Skyrail and MTR. BTW, is there a way to edit the misspelled "buddha"? It is bugging me now |

I have the same problem with the typos in my last post - I can't believe I submitted that - I blame software corruption! |

I have not yet taken the cable car and will wait until second week of October when I will take some oversees visitors there. The bus ride from Tung Chung across the mountain is a real drag due to the construction and took almost 45 minutes when I went last Saturday! The ferry from Central to Mui Wo plus bus to Ngong Ping is preferable IMO if you're coming from HK side; TC line is better if you're coming from New Territories / Kowloon-side. |
