The Nottingham University does carry a better reputation (for research funding and for employment prospects).
But have a look at the courses you're studying:
Management or Business studies leads you to a very different direction than computer studies.
Although the Northern universities can be bleak, Nottingham itself isn't going to offer any great advantage if you come out with a computer science degree. Edinburgh and countless federal universities in London will offer you that edge.
I agree in that there is little to go on in terms of university rankings outside the top 10 (or 5 rather). You'd be buying into a urban myth perpetuated by crass modern newspapers which generate enough spin about prestige than really exists.
