Noticed that the RSS feed seems to contain the full first message in a thread now, which is nice.
Which tool bar are you talking about ? On the GeoExpat.com site itself or in the Firefox browser interface. I am running Firefox with the "all in one sidebar toolbar" extension and I don't think I having any problems.

Talking about the left-hand side of the page - the bit with "Logout/Options, User Menu, Search, etc." on it. It was less messed up at one point yesterday, but it's differently messed-up now. Before, it had some of the text crunched up vertically, so it was on top of other text - now, the start of the text, bullets, search box, etc. are projecting out from the left-hand side of the rounded-corner backing graphics which are meant to contain them...

vmlinuz : can you email me a screen shot on feedback@geoexpat.com. We've tested with firefox and IE 6/7, so I'm a bit worried about your problem.

Good grief, I don't check in for a couple of weeks and look what happens!

I seem to be in the minority, but not that keen on the new look. I think it's mostly just the colour scheme, but it feels more crowded - flashing ads top, bottom, left and right, and the actual message area feels like a small band down the middle. Admittedly I do work on a 1280x1024 display with my bookmarks permanently open on the left, taking up space.

I know you depend on ads, but when they get too obtrusive they're counter-productive. People start blocking them or at best ignoring them. Personally I think you're at that point.

The colours - I like blue, but there's something about the shades or the combination of shades that I don't like. Too much contrast between the very dark blue and the light blue and white?

All vague I know - and anyway, what do I know? All just personal opinion.

>> I don't check in for a couple of weeks

See what happens when you don't check in everyday.

Seriously though, a fair bit of time has gone into this and there is some method to what you think is madness.

>> actual message area feels like a small band down the middle

The pixel width of the message board has actually remained unchanged. Honestly... seriously...

One of the things we desperately needed was a slight increase in style over substance ratio. It was needed to keep advertisers happy -- they pay us well and take care of us and we must take care of them. The colors and a fair bit of the design are focused on this issue.. drawing attention inwards.

Give it a couple of days and you will get used to it.. I hope.
