Salary for Fresh Grad. (LLB)

Can anyone advise the salary (in HKD) of a fresh grad. who:

- Graduated from law school (belonging to one of the larger, more recognised Australian universities) with credit-distinction average results

- Has done attachments/internships (every year throughout law school)with a number of large corporate firms; positive testimonials from supervising partners

- Fluent in written and spoken English/Mandarin (not Cantonese)

Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated!

P.S.: I have already done a search through the forum but could not find anything that shed light on this question

with your skill set (especially your language skills) you will be very much in demand at Hong Kong law firms.

as a trainee solicitor at a first tier commercial firm you will earn a monthly salary in the 40k region. from what i have heard, assuming that you meet your chargeable hours for the year, there is also a bonus every year in addition to your base pay.

Thanks for replying !

Any person, in general, would naturally attempt to negotiate for a better remuneration package for him/herself.

Any reasonable person would negotiate reasonably - which can only be done when knowledge of the norm is had.

I'm seeking info. regarding this matter as I don't want to come across as an unreasonable, and ignorant ass during negotiations!

Once again, thanks for the replies thus far guys/girls Truly appreciate it !

negotiation is only possible when both parties want something from each other from the same deal.

as a graduate, you have no track record, no directly relevant work experience, and that when a law firm hires you the firm is really taking a punt.

the trainee positions at the first tier commercial law firms are very high in demand, and there are literally thousands of applicants for a handful of positions available. so, if i were you, i wouldnt even bother try to negotiate your package.
