You can get US Wiis easily in Wanchai or SSP, today, for cash. I don't have the current price to hand - was planning to go out this afternoon and check it.

And yes, it's been confirmed that they are bloody region-locked - at least, I've seen a video on YouTube of someone putting a US game into a Japanese machine and it simply failing to load. The hope would be that it's as easy to deal with as the GameCube, where you just had to use a loader disk to play out-of region games, but it's not been broken yet...

Saw Wii for sale in "Sin Dak Gwong Cheung" (Sino Plaza) in Mong Kok today but had to leave in case I met my maker early because of the foul stench of free flowing cigarette smoke. The Tobacco Control Department have the gaul to post No Smoking posters around the place threatening $5000 fines but then turn a blind eye - well atleast for as long as I can remember. Wonder if they will enforce this next month.
EDGE Shopping centre in TKO have the Japanese 110v model for $2280 without a game.

Uh, actually...

I've just been to Wanchai, and nobody there has any US model Wiis in stock. The Japanese model is everywhere, going for under $2000 without any games, or $2300 or so with Wii Sports - so the same pack-in as the US bundle - but as I said, all the menus are in Japanese, it'll only play games from Japan, and it'll almost certainly only let you connect to the Japanese Wii Store. Various people told me they'd have the US model in later this week, but they were still talking $3500 or so for it

I did see a few people playing Wii Sports - on machines they were in the process of buying, I think - and there's not much to say other than it works as advertised. If the Japanese machine could play non-Japanese games, I would be playing mine right now...

Edit: Also, as well as plentiful stocks of spare controllers - Wiimote, nunchuck and classic - there were at least a few places with composite cables available, and they're apparently gold dust in the US. And quite a few places had store cards available, so it looks like there'll be no need to get a friendly foreigner to buy them - something like $230 for a 3000 card, IIRC.

It all seems a long way off the USD249 price.

I've got to ask... how are all these questions not answered by the - pretty short - thread you've just replied to? In fact, just my reading my posts in the thread!

If there are any questions not answered, feel free to ask them, but it's a bit silly to post questions to a thread which already answers them.

I'm living just across from the border in Shenzhen and I have an older Chinese tv, I assume PAL-only. Now I see all those US/JP Wii's mentioned in this thread, but that's probably not going to work for Chinese tv's right? Does anyone know where to buy a European (PAL) version of the Wii in China or HK or a shop that ships to China?
