There were fair stocks of the US Wii (with Wii Sports included) in Wanchai late last week, going for $3200 alone, or about $3650 with Zelda... I saw one being booted, to prove it worked, but not going as far as getting the controller doing anything. I'm not sure what the power situation is - if it needs a transformer, or just an adapter. I was sorely tempted, but I'm sticking to my rule - no Wii until I've made significant progress towards getting a job (and therefore an income)

The only big question is if you have to give an address to register on the system in the first place. You're going to have an account, because it needs to keep track of your purchases and balance... |

Does anyone know when the HK release date is, and where we'll be able to buy it from? I don't fancy buying a Japanese/US import from WanChai...

Nintendo Wii How about buying one from a fellow expat? I may pick up a few in the US. I'dlike to know if there are limitations. I'm also confused if I should buy a Wii or ps3 that's us based, I know that I'll be returning to the US eventually so I don't want to have to buy two of the same systems or wait until they finally hack 'em.

Just found out that the Wii is backward compatible with GameCube games so that's a plus in my books. It's selling price is very affordable too. Seen a number of games around and they seem to be pricey. I'm hoping for the price to be reasonable in time for treating myself uhmm - my son - uhmm at xmas.

Nintendo Wii My friend told me that his Wii (HK$3980, bought on the first day of the US launch in Hong Kong) can connect to the US site to buy retro games (eg. Super Mario 64) using VISA or Mastercard (The Wii Credits cards are not required) Right now, most game shops in HK are selling the Japanese Import console at around HK$2000 (console only) and the interface is all Japanese and there is no option for the interface to switch to English. Yes, the Wii is Gamecube compatible. I read in a game magazine that they have tried the "Freeloader" Disc with the US Wii to play Japanese Gamecube games. Let's hope that there's a Freeloader Disc for Wii games coming soon. (No more region lock down) Both the Japanese and the US consoles are NTSC, but most TVs in HK can auto detect and playback NTSC. But as for the power supply, most shops will not provide you with the 110v-to-220v transformers...you have to pay extra for the transformer... bummer.
