Hey pet owners in HK..

Are there any pet specific forums for pet owners in Hong Kong? I am going to need find a good vet and a good veterinary opthalmologist for my golden retriever when he arrives in December.

Thanks!

I don't know of any, but I'd like one too. I always found it surprising there isn't one on Geoexpat...

There are quite a few good vets in HK, but I guess that could be seen as being a little subjective

As far as opthalmologists goes, there are a few vets that have a special interest in opthalmology, but there is no registered specialist living in HK. However, once or twice a year we have a registered opthalomolgy specialist come from Australia and do a bit of touring in HK. I think most vets would be capable of seeing your Lab, or referring him to someone suitable.

Hope this helps a little...

KIA - Any thoughts on Jenifa's suggestion of a pet owners forum?

VetInHK - Thanks for the info. I am worried if I can't find a vet opth in HK. My dog has been going to one in NYC for almost 5 years as he has golden retriever uveitis. He gets a thorough eye exam 3 to 4 times a year to monitor his condition and see his meds need to changed. The only goldens that I know with the disease went blind in both eyes so we are really concerned and cautious.

thewongs : http://www.spca.org.hk/eng/vet/surgeon.html -- might be your answer. Drop them a line and see if they meet your requirements.

No problems with a pet forum ... we're moving to some new software next week and I'll set something up at that point.

Let me know if someone wants to volunteer to be a moderator for it.

KIA - I will give SPCA a call. I can probably volunteer as a moderator but let me know what it entails in terms of availability.

You can also go to HKDR (Hong Kong Dog Rescue) and HK Alley Cat. They have forums.

We have a 8 year old lab who has been very well looked after by Wanchai Animal Clinic

G/F, 12 Wood Road
Wanchai
Hong Kong
Tel 2572 5422

These vets are mainly South Africans who have been in HK a long time and are excellent. They have several vets , we have seen at least 3 and all are superb, all speak english and the assistants are mainly local who speak Canto and english.

I think they also have Clinics in Sai Kung and somewhere in Kowloon, not sure where.

We would not go anywhere else once we had found these guys

Thanks!

HKDR (goodkarma - Thanks!) referred me to an ophthalmology specialist (Dr. Chow) at Peace Avenue Vet Clinic. I sent PAVC an email to see if they have experience with the eye disease. I can rest a little more comfortably knowing that there are some eye specialists there.

When we are settled in HK with the dog, I will contact Wanchai Animal Clinic for a regular checkup - Thanks PaulMears! Referrals really do matter.

You can bring your dog to the HK Dog Rescue outing in Nov. I'll post it here.
