Forking out $3799 just because you've got a display issue? That's giving up a bit easily! (Ok, I admit I've come close once or twice)

HKNewBi, yes, uninstalling the driver while in safe mode is the surest way to make it revert to VGA on a permanent basis. Then log in normally, download the correct driver and make sure you set a resolution and refresh rate that suits the monitor.

Cheers guys.

She is 9 years old - by the time she saves up $4k for a new box XP will probably no longer be supported!!!

All she does with it is use it to run Internet Explorer - so the Win2k interface makes no real odds. I may be popping back over tonight so will nuke the graphics driver and see if that works.

It is funny when you have to go back and support an old interface like Win2k. Used to know it inside out and suddenly you find all the old shortcuts etc don't work. That said, there really isn't too much difference between using Win2k and XP.

I was renewing my classic car insurance in an office in Central the other day. Sat on a desk was an old Compaq (remember them???) machine proudly runing Windows 3.1. No idea what the machine was being used for. I yearn for those days of simplicity!!!

I under where you're coming from and $3799 seems a lot to spend but how much longer is that old computer going to last? Not to mention the slow speed of all the components may affect her approach to using the internet. Still, I'm sure you can sort out the problems and fingers crossed that there are no more down that road.
What classic car do you have?

Hi Guys

Went back to look at this PC. If I disable the video driver the PC seems to work fine in VGA mode - but of course looks awful.

The machine is from 1999. Anyone have an old video card they don't want that I can pop into this machine?

Discobay - I have 2 classic cars - a Citroen DS and a Citroen 2CV (see attached picture in Tung Chung and To Kwa Wan)

I assume they are air-con-less and you only drive them sparingly with those trade plates.
I can dig up an old video card for you. If I find it I'll post it to you.

Fully aircon'ed - the roof comes right off!

Those pictures were from the day it went for first registration testing in Hong Kong so I had to take it there on trade plates. You can't get HK plates until the car has been tested first. It is now on HK plates.

If you find an old card that is much appreciated as I have a nine year old nagging me to fix her PC.

Hi Db

No, I do but I need to find the address of my friend to post it to.

Sorry, I have been laid out for the last few days with a nasty chest infection that seems to be doing the rounds.

I will PM you the address when I get it.

Thanks
