Noise canceling headsets for MTR travel I'm traveling by MTR every day to work & back, it's noisy as hell there as we all know. I've been wondering why so few people wear noise canceling headsets, I am at least seriously considering making my 30+30 mins every day a bit more enjoyable by reducing the noise outside and perhaps being able to even listen to some language material. Yet it would be nice if the headsets would not be the bulkiest of them all - I remember traveling in US and Canada almost everybody had their Bose headsets on the plane, what would be the ideal model for the noise in MTR and like said, not too bulky so it could fit in my computer bag as well when not using...?

Is it really that noisy on the MTR? I just use an i-Tech R35 BT headset with its standard ear plugs. I don't need to have WMP on maximum either. Maybe it's the noise from the rush-hour crowd that drowns out your hears?

some more expensive alternatives, both reduce background noise by using a custom fit earpiece : http://www.ultimateears.com/custom/UE-10-Pro.htm, USD 900 http://www.sensaphonics.com/prod_2xs.html, USD 750 i have been using the first one for about a year now, its fantastic. one thing i love about it is that the cable is detachable from the earpieces. i often wear the earpieces (which act like custom fitted ear plugs) by themselves just to lower the noise level reaching my head.

ahhh. i know exactly what you mean. my ipod stopped working for a month so i had to endure all the noise on the mtr/kcr. anyways, i use sennheiser px200. (http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...nsf/root/05207) it's not specifically noise-cancelling, but it is a closed headset and it works wonders. it blocks out most of the noise.

Yep that's one hell of a noisy crossing. I dread being telephoned during those two minutes because it's so deafening.

Hey obviouspig...have you owned any other earphones like the Shure e5c or e4c, or maybe the Ultimate Ears Super fi pro 5 prior to what you've got now. I ask because I'm using the UE Super fi pro 5s right now and I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to the UE 10 pros. Is there a huge leap in performance to justify the extra cost when I'm just using them for my MP3s, at lot of which are just 128 bitrate downloaded from net?

the term noise cancelling headset is interesting. does it cancels all noise ? i have the impression that it cancels the low frequency noise (e.g. plane murmurs) but doesn't do much for other higher pitch stuffs. e.g. people's chat and train screech...
