The iPhone is definately expensive. I'm pretty much sold on their media extender.

At under HKD3,900 for the 4GB model I would buy it today. Sadly, it may cost more when it is released in Asia whenever that is.

I really like Apple's products but I wouldn't push everything else out of the way just to get a gander. I am very much a realist at heart. I like the iPhone because of its looks and features. I think it's worth it. I don't think everything else Apple sells is worth the price it demands and that's why I don't generally buy their products. Still this is all academic as we are unlikely to see it here anytime this year.

Now let's take a look at different processor configurations and the resulting pricing from the US stores.

Dual Core Intel Xeon 2GHz x 2 (4MB shared L2 cache)
Dell: $2,086.00 (with a $200 discount for small business)
Apple: $2,124.00

Dual Core Intel Xeon 2.66GHz x 2 (4MB shared L2 cache)
Dell: $2,866.00 (with a $200 discount for small business)
Apple: $2,424.00

Dual Core Intel Xeon 3GHz x 2 (4MB shared L2 cache)
Dell: $3,686.00 (with a $200 discount for small business)
Apple: $3,224.00

The reason that people think Macs are more expensive is because they compare the cost of a Mac to the cost of a basic PC but Mac don't make lo-spec machines in the same way.
