| General Grocery Question We are moving to Hong Kong in late October. We spent 10 days in Hong Kong back in 2004 but we haven't been back to check it out from a daily living perspective. We are forgoing a house hunting trip in lieu of one month in a serviced apt so we won't get a chance to check things out before we move. Also, we don't know where we will live yet. So what's grocery shopping like in Hong Kong in general? Are there separate international markets? Is everything in the market labeled in English? We are living in Tokyo now and it aint so easy to shop in the local markets for a few reasons 1) our japanese isn't so good and 95% of the lables are in japanese 2) no experience in cooking japanese meals 3) sometimes you think you've just bought say.. picante sauce and you find out it's curry flavored.. even the English label is misleading. Just to give you an idea of some of things we usually eat: Cereal Peanut Butter Tacos/Burritos Turkey Burgers We aren't gourmet cooks here so we are just looking for some of the basic American staples. Thanks! |

| I'm presuming this isn't a joke so I'll go right ahead and say that yes, you can buy these things here and the labels are in English. |

| Hong Kong is a shopping paradise, even for groceries. The super markets have English Labels. There are deli supermarkets like Oliver's, great, City-Super where you can get mostly overseas foods. Oliver's mostly British/European, city-super has a great deal of Japanese foods. And there are some special shops and dealers for different nationalities, like German, American, probably Australian, but also Indian, Arab, Thai, Philippino, etc. So, when you prefer German bread (hard crust) over American bread (sponge-like) you can find that at the Delicatessen Corner of the Holiday Inn Golden Mile in TST. |

Thanks I found a lot of major American brands like Kellog Cereals, Skippy Peanut Butter, Doritos and I belive I even saw Boca Burgers at City Super. Even in the more local supermarket like Wellcome you can find american brand groceries. Ballerina |
