Applying for holiday working visa first or find a job first...

Hi,

I am just wondering if I should find a job first or apply for holiday visa first?
I am an Australian citizen.
Does any Australians have any experiences before?

Thanks in advance,

An Australian friend of mine is here on a working holiday visa. He came here on a tourist visa, applied for the working holiday visa and then started looking for a job.
You have more chances of landing a job after the visa issue is sorted out.

pondok,

What kind of job will you be looking for? I'm a New Zealander, recently arrived in HK on a working holiday visa. I applied before I came and remember it'll take anywhere from three- six weeks to come through (even with some gentle encouragement in the form of a fax to the HK immigration).

Having it already on arrival will assist you greatly as I have found. You are able to either take up part time work or as I have done advertise the fact that you can start work immediately (legally) for them while you wait for their sponsored work visa to come through. It's got me numerous job offers I don't think I would have otherwise received. It also gives you a chance to trial a job, and for them to trial you before both sides commit to a sponsored visa. If after a few weeks you don't like it you can just leave and find another job with out having to worry.

Even if you just plan of working part-time teaching or something similar, I would suggest its best to have it before you come.

Hope that makes some kind of sense.

Ocean

thanks for your info guys... I really appreciate it.

What sort of documentations are needed anyway? I am in Indonesia with a very limited internet connection at the moment

Btw, will the fact that I got rejected before for applying investment visa affect my working holiday visa?

Don't think your investment visa should affect your WH visa so long as you meet the other criteria (under 30yo, aus,nz or irish citizen). You need (from memory):

1. a bank statement showing proof of sufficient funds to support yourself in HK.
2. Return ticket OR proof of funds equal to a return ticket (see above)
2. application form shown here:
http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/evfhk.htm (ID(E)940 & ID(E)940A)
3. Passport photo
4. visa fee

thinks thats it.

P.S. if they're taking to long or you don't hear anything after a couple of weeks, send a fax through the embassy/consulate to HK immigration stating that you are leaving whatever country you are in on some date very soon (make it up) and you need your visa asap. Worked for me, visa showed two days later.

Smile Visa for Czech ?

Ocean,
please is this working holiday visa valid only for citizens of AU,NZ or Irish? I am from Czech republic, and i would like to relocate to HK in few months, so I wonder if this is applicable as well on me?

Is there any time restriction on this type of visa?

Thanks
Best regards
Jakub
