Best way to get to Guangzhou from Hong Kong

Hi, A friend of mine will be coming over for a trade show in October in guangzhou and she has asked me the best way to get there from Hoong Kong. Also can anyone recomend a nice hotel. She seems to have heard horror stories about this place and is very nervous. Any help would be appreciated!

Your friend is probably talking about the Canton Fair - the time when hotel rates triple in Guangzhou.... Best way to go would be by direct train - departure is from Hung Hom Station. From past experiences I'd suggest to get the tickets well in advance. I am not that updated about the hotel situation there, but the China Hotel is one of the closest to the exhibition center. The Garden Hotel as well as the Holiday Inn and the Guangdong International (they changed the name of that one frequently, it is opposite the Garden Hotel) are not too far away either. Not sure about the Dang Fang Hotel (opposite the exhibition center) - back when I was living in Guangzhou is was in desperate need for renovation. The other option would be to make it a day trip and return back to Hong Kong in the evening.

If the rates are too high in GZ .. try the JIA HUA hotel in Dong Guan ..
Its quite good ... and they have special buses to both the locations of the Canton Fair ...

U shall find buyers frm all over the world who stay there for 10-15 days with their family in tow ..

Expatriate has pissed of a few people
I heard, it is cheaper to stay in Hong Kong and just take the train to the fair.

But I think it is more interesting to stay in Guangzhou.
