Move to HK with visitor visa Hello all. My boyfriend is an English, he has got a good master degree and teaching qualification. He wants to look for a teaching job in HK. So I believe that he has got no problem in getting a teaching job in HK. but first I'm not sure if he could look for a job on a visitor visa? How do overseas people look for a job in HK then? They wouldn't have the work permit by the time they were asked for interview. So are people holiding visitor visa allowed to look for a job in HK? If the interview is successful, could he change the visitor visa to work permit without living HK? I'm not too sure about the whole process of getting a work permit, so hope someone here would be able to answer. thanks.

I wouldn't swear to the legal side of things, but I think looking for a job, interviewing, etc. while on a vistor visa is a very normal thing to do, and I would say that if your boyfriend can get a job - and I don't see why he shouldn't - he should have no trouble getting a visa, since he sounds better qualified than a lot of the people teaching English in Hong Kong right now Also, don't show him that terrible run-on sentence...

Technically I don't think you're allowed to look for work on a visitor visa, but in reality that's what people do. Just don't advertise the fact to anyone "official". As long as he can find an employer willing to sponsor a work visa there's no practical problem - all it needs is a day trip out of HK to validate the visa once granted.
