7-11 ones are still too expensive for me. I usually got those sold in e.g. Western Union (one in Central Star Ferry pier) or a small shop in Lockhard Road, Wanchai where there are many Thai ppl who need to call home, you know?! I never called to the US with those card the sell but I call to France (believe that's more expensive than calling to the US) $50 (the shop in Wanchai and one shop right across Starbucks nearby the Star ferry pier in TST, even sell for $45) with airtime 4 hours something! Can you believe that???!!!!!! 99% of the time has no connection problems. Highly recommend it !

Switch to Three. There's an IDD plan for HKd38 a month in addition to basic minutes. 550 minutes is like 58 a month.

I think I need another SIM card with good IDD rates. Cant leave my old one as need to keep the number. Anywhere to get the dual holder and is there a place that will cut the 2 cards? Or is that a bad idea?

Why not just get a decent phonecard (this doesn't involve changing your SIM/number). Or sign your mobile up for 0080 or 0060 or any of the postpaid IDD services... I don't understand why you feel access to a fixed line is relevant - for many HK phonecards calling from a mobile is cheaper than calling from a fixed line anyway.

You can trivially get to HKD$68 per month all you can eat, or to about HK$0.38/min pay as you go. If you really shop around you can get down to HK$0.20/min.

Hi PDLM, how does post paid IDD work with a prepaid SIM? I get a bill? Sounds like you are recommending a regular pepaid card to use with my mobile? So I pay the local call rate on the prepaid SIM and whatever the phone card rate works out to be? Is that what you are saying? Where can I conveniently get the lowest cost prepaid phone card? Thanks.
