Thanks for all the info here, bought the Nokia 6280 - I love it! I got it with a CSL plan:

HKD 138 + 15 value added service (chose sms) + 12 tunnel fee.

Includes 1500 minutes, and 50 minutes IDD calls - including all countries I wanted

I just need to pay 1388 with 400 rebate on 4th month, 15 month contract. Not bad...

The 3 offer requires the 178 monthly deal, and a value add service of around 30.

Just curious: The prepayment works that you need to pay 1380 + 900 = 2280 then they rebate a portion of the 900 monthly, right?

Tunnel fee is the 'cough' con 'cough' we have to pay for the reception that we get in tunnels.

it's basically a crap charge that they add on. Good thing they don't add in more like: fee for using cell site near gov't building, etc. etc.

It's a voice call plan. All I want is a cool phone, not planning to use any 3G features...

It's to cover the costs of locating their base stations in tunnels, primarily on the MTR but also to the operators of the road tunnels as well. They pay a high fee to these operators and reclaim it back through the "tunnel fee" we all see on our bills. Funnily enough though I cannot find any information which informs us how much the network operators have to pay to the tunnel operators and how much the networks get back from their paying customers.....

With the (ever growing) number of mobile phone users here you wonder when they would have recouped their costs and whether they will remove the charge altogether.
Now if they could only get radio reception in tunnels sorted out ...

so actually using prepaid card (like what i have been doign for the past 8mths) is not that bad an idea. at least such things are not charged and u pay as u use...

it might not be farfetch about paying near government building
next time if u dun register your phone and dun pay for usage near monuments and govt building, your phone will not get thru. this is to prevent terrorist from using mobile to trigger their car bombs near the office of the important SAR legistra members. blar blar..,.

Cost of putting signals on tunnels? Are they serious? But we get charged per minute already. Yeah, I agree it's all just blah blah ways to squeeze money out of us...
