Sheung Wan area

Hi

I have just arrived in HK and was looking ideally to find a serviced apartment in Central but came across one in Sheung Wan that looks pretty ok. Can anybody give me any feedback on Sheung Wan as an area?

Thanks
Spanner

I live in Sheung Wan and think it's great- easy walking distance to Central/Soho/LKF without the expat ghetto feeling of the mid-levels. More 'character' than most places on the MTR Island line due to all the weird little shops selling dried herbal medicines.

The only downsides are a rather convoluted MTR station and a lack of more upmarket eateries.

There are a bunch of serviced apartments in the area. Erba on Queens Rd next to Cafe O (good pizza there), W on Jervios/Bonham Strand and one just across the road from it. And there is a Sharma up the hill, but that's getting into mid-levels territory and a harder walk to Central.

I've lived in Sheung Wan for over a year and have no complaints at all about the area. Definitely a good place to live, convenient and close to eveything. Plenty of cheaper places to eat too and if you want more variety/ western options just walk the 5mins to Soho.

.
I should add that I was really scraping the bottom of the barrel for the downsides. I really like Sheung Wan- nothing beats being able to bypass crowded public transport options to get to work.

Thanks both for your reply. I managed to take a walk around a little today and thought it was a great area and so close to soho/central etc so will be taking up an apartment I have found there.

Thanks so much

Add my vote for Sheung Wan

I moved to Sheung Wan 5 days ago and already realise it is extremely convenient. Pretty much everything I need is within a 5 minute walk. Within that 5 minute radius I've got 3 supermarkets, 2 7/11s, a Circle K, the Broadway computing centre, the MTR station, a McDonalds (if you must!) and numerous eateries. I've even seen a couple of bar-type places. And if you want a lot of bars, just walk down to Soho.

I wouldnt want to live in a totally expat area (dont see the point of coming to another country and then just hanging around your own all the time) and SW is certainly not that, but it is close enough to the centre of the city to feel as though you aren't totally out of place walking the streets as an expat.

The only downside I can come up with (and it is really scraping the barrel) is that when you enter the MTR station it is a relatively long walk to the platform. If that is the worst thing I can say about the area then it must be good.

Heh- that was one of the gripes that I came up with too. Have you noticed that if waiting for the second elevator to get back upstairs takes exactly the same time as walking? I'm pretty lazy sometimes, so I just wait.

Yeah the MTR walk was the only thing I could think of as a bad point and that extra walk means I can eat a few more calories!!!!!
