one thing good about UOB card (not sure about the HK issued ones), the forex rates they provide for cross country usage is usually the best. at least 1% better than the other credit card companies.

u might wnat to try it someday and tell us if its that case.

for forex, u'd have to try it out to know the effect. since everyone wld charge u different forex rate and that part is not transparent.

as for points, well, i'm not going to spend too much time figuring out the interpretations.

just an update:

I applied for both the SCB master and the SCB AE Platinum card.
The free gift (or actually discounted offer) was a Ericsson K800 at 1200hkd, if you spend 8000hkd within the first 4 months.
That's the only reason I applied for the card.

After taking 2 months to process my application, well, u know it, they gave away all the phones (5000 sets).
I finally received my card, but since I realized they gave away all the phones, I called up the service hotline and ask them what i would get.

Today one of the platinum marketing ger called me up:
- offers me to get the other gift, the canon camera
- or get the nintendo DS lite at 280hkd
- or the land line phone set

I have no need of a canon camera, I don't have a landline, and the offer of the DS Lite at 280hkd is much undervalue as compared to the listed price of the ericsson.
So I told the ger that I am simply not going to use the card becuase I do not want any of the three gifts. SCB's exchange rate is one of the worst around and unless I get something I want I won't waste money. 8-P

She's really patience and tried hard. I am not sure what she will propose eventually.
There is already 30thousand points credited into my account for the unfortunate incidence.. I'll see if they did put a proper note in the system and offer me their next choices of gifts. I'll keep my card mint till I see a real gift that I like..

I signed up for and received the
UOB AMG Financial Visa Platinum card. I discovered that UOB does not offer a website where you can view your balance or recent transactions. Do only a few HK credit card issuers offer this feature? I thought it would be standard these days.
