I just received my UOB Platinum yesterday and I am not a PR.

I guess UOB's terms and conditions give them a right of refusal for non-PR applicants, which they might not exercise. So no harm trying to apply IMHO.

And thanks for the excellent analysis, yes this is a good deal.

time to shop for another credit card

my friends have been raving about this one http://www.standardchartered.com.hk/...card_amex.html, that you can upgrade your starbucks, which is cool, ignoring the fair trade coffee bit.
anyway i dont drink starbucks coffee and i dont know if it's a good rebate plan, especially when i dont shop at those listed dept stores.

are there any good NON-platinum credit cards with 0$ annual fee and good rebate plan? am i asking too much?

just printed out the SCB 8% rebate card and had a good look at it.
its not as easy as that.
very smart way of advertising.

u get 8% rebate for expenses below 10k hkd at the supermarkets. i.e maximum of 800HKD. but at the same time, if part of the 10k hkd is spent at elsewhere, your rebate becomes 1%.

then, if u get one of the free gifts, u'd need to spend like 8.8hkd within 4 mths. meaning that u likely have to sign your card at other places instead of the supermarkets. so u are not going to get your full 800hkd rebates from teh supermarket.

that said, i'm still going for the card to get my i800 ericsson phone. 8-P

yes, but doesnt it say u have to register for both scb mastercard and amex? what the heck am i going to do with all those credit cards? and since i dont shop at those super markets i'd pick the 1% rebate, but i couldnt find if there is a time limit to that in the t+c. argh.
