liu chong hing bank MSN@visa card has an annual fee waiver and has 0.5% cash rebate that you see in ur next statement. no minimums and maximums etc etc. there are alot of other "frills" but they look kinda useless to me. http://www.lchbank.com/perbk/creditc...e_feature.html

AE Platinum Credit Card. But note high annual fee of HK$1800. Hk$1000 rebate plus restaurant discounts could offset this. Advantage is that the rewards are valid for lifetime. http://www.americanexpress.com/hk/en/homepage.shtml Last edited by hknt; 30-09-2006 at 02:16 PM.

In addition, forgot to mention that 0.1% of your retail spending with the card will be donated to charity organization(s) to help those who are in need.

That's strange as I got my first HK credit card based on my passport and temporary HKID.

PR stands for permanent resident and yes, according to the form only permanent residents can apply for this particular AMG card from UOB. other banks/credit card companies have got other policies regarding the requirements for applicants. my guess for UOB restricting themselves to PRs only, is the "56 days' interest-free credit" to avoid temporary residents running away with their open bills. --- but that UOB offer is still really interesting, especially because of the asiamile conversion scheme: 6 HKD are equivalent to 1 asiamile with their double point system for local purchases (1 asiamile for every 12 uni points; 2 uni points for every 1 HKD). calculated on regular fared CX economy class tickets to europe with HKD 8,500 for which you would need 60,000 asiamiles, the cash rebate would be at around 2.36% for every HKD spent in HKG. in comparison, the cathay co-branded citibank platinum select preferred card has got only a scheme with 8 HKD equivalent to 1 asiamile (until that offer from UOB already the best offer you can find in HKG). so the coversion rate for above CX-Europe example would at around 1.77% and therewith less than the AMG card from UOB. both cards have no conversion fee to asiamiles, but the AMG card from UOB requires to convert blocks of at least 500 asiamiles, which doesn't matter, as there is no auto-conversion and therefore no odd asiamiles will be forfeited. but it's only for the patient ones of course, as the milage accrual for a CX ticket to europe requires to spend HKD 360,000 within around 3 years or less (otherwise the miles expire) to get a rebate of HKD 8,500 in form of the air ticket for free instead of HKD 3,600 cash when using the 1% cash rebate only. even if you calculate a very high 5% interest rates p.a. on the HKD 3,600 cash rebate received for 3 years earlier than the flight ticket, then you would be still far away from the rebate received with a redeemed flight ticket. so if you are into flying regularly on better airlines (like CX), then converting into asiamiles and redeeming flights will usually give you much more back, than those 1% cash rebates. the rebate rates for asiamiles are even higher, when redeeming business class or even first class tickets, sometimes even exceeding 5% rebate of your spending on regular priced air tickets.
