buying a lot from shenzhen another shenzhen shopping question: If i'm planning on buying a LOT of things, what's the best type of bag to bring to: 1) avoid pickpocketing 2) carry a lot of stuff all day around the malls, transit, and back to hk I was thinking of a medium sized suitcase, or a large backpack (not sure how much i'll be buying). Any other advice or should I just carry shopping bags around?

If you are sticking to the shopping center across from the customs, then a big suitcase or duffel bag with wheels would be best. A rucksack is too small and too easy to have snatched away. It's hard to forget/steal a suitcase.

I shop in Shenzhen quite often and go further out by subway because I don't like the Shopping Center across the border...so filthy. My suggestions are: 1) Minimize what you bring along...just money, passport/ID, keys 2) Never use a backpack, a bag/small suitcase with wheels for sure 3) Always stay alert of your surroundings Happy shopping!

Gongzhu, where do you head off to for your shopping? Do you get a cab? I am moving over soon and will want to go to SZ but don't know where the better places to shop are as I too don't like that big mall over the boarder. Also, what are the types of things you buy there? Thanks for your advice

inthesquare, I take the subway to Huaqianglu, and there are so many malls there...it costs only RMB$3 one way, but if there are a few of you, it's worth taking the cab, it's around $25-30 depending on the traffic. I don't like the Lowu Mall because all they sell are counterfeits. Good quality at a fair price is much more appealing to me. What kind of stuff do I buy? Being a female, shoes of course. A frequently visited chained clothing & shoe store (www.hotwind.net) where they sell all kinds of shoes from dress shoes, casual shoes, sporty to outdoorsy...brand names like Nine West, Aerosoles, Etienne Aigner, DKNY, Naturalizer, Teva, ...etc. What else do they have, clothes...dress to the nines or T-shirt & jeans...handbags, accessories, backpacks, sunnies, I think they also stock some outdoor sports equipment, I am not sure what in specific though coz I ain't an outdoorsy type. And good news for our male counterparts, they also have a decent selection of men's stuff. Books...art supplies...odds and ends... Oh, spa...just once...coz I ended up spending 6 hours there, dips in whirlpools, steam room, reflexology, thai massage, all that for only about RMB$200 including tippings. Afterall, bring a clear head with you...be discriminating, buy what you need and spend within your budget...there are always something better than what you already have. Hope this helps. spaceman, what kind of stuff are you after? Maybe I can give you more specific info as I usually go shopping alone...and don't shop on rainy days...go on weekdays only 'coz dislike the crowd on weekends...

Definteily bring a roller suitcase with lock. Also try to teather it to your wrist in case you get into a rob situation. If they are going to rob you make it difficult. Napsack is a bad idea as your back will hurt.
