Need Advise - Moving to Hong Kong

Hi

Wondering if anyone can help. I was offered as a director position in China with an accounting firm. The company is willing to allow me to locate to HK, Shanghai or Beijing.

Where would you think is best for career growth and social life?

Can someone give me an idea of what $ to expect?

I will be coming from NYC with 7 years work exp in U.S and Europe. Single, Chinese American, speaks Mandarin, shanghaiese and French.

Thanks in advance.

hk definitely.

in mainland china, it's gonna be hard if u dunno how to deal with its local "culture", which is often the case for people (including chinese people) from out of town.

i too can speak shanghainese and mandarin.

that would depend on what you are teaching.

from what i heard, foreign english teachers have to be native speakers and have years of professional teaching experience proven by certificates. even native speakers might not be able to get a teaching job if they do not have the certificates and experience.

you need to have sponsorship to get a visa in hk if you are not a hk resident.

Can you take a trip and see all 3 before you decide?
Based on your languages, I'd say shanghai might be better as most people in HK don't speak mandarin so you'd have to learn cantonese if you want the local experience. Shanghai is certainly on the up too so career-wise I don't think you'd suffer

A sponsorship? I thought if someone has employed me they arrange everything necessary for a visa. As much as I know the company you work for have to apply for you. Or perhaps I have incorrect information?
You are right it take many years of hard working and studding to become a teacher. My qualifications and experience are from administrative field…but ‘cos I know as a foreigner to get job like that it’s nearly impossible (of course any country would employ domestic people) that’s why I am asking about teaching.
Or if any of you have any suggestions what I should look for in there, please, let me know. I don’t know how is about HK, but there is no way to get job in Kuala Lumpur unless the person is really highly educated and experienced. So the positions are like Directors, General Managers, etc..etc

Any way thank you for trying to explane how the things are go
ing in there.

The company will apply for a work visa for you and do all the paperwork, this is what is meant by a 'sponsorship'. But you have to find a company who are prepared to do this, and unless you have some really outstanding skills that they can't get locally, you might struggle. You say you are coming to HK already though, in what capacity? If you're on a dependent visa then I think you're allowed to work without the company having to offer sponsorship and so making the market a lot larger for you, I could be wrong though.
Regarding teaching, please don't take this the wrong way as it's not meant to be nasty, but reading your posts I don't think your English is good enough to be teaching it such that an employer will give you sponsorship unless they were all typos of course

in hong kong, you can pretty much get around easily without knowing the local language.

in shanghai, it's hard to get anywhere even if you know the language. it's not the language that matters. it's the culture, connection, relationship type of things that make it hard for foreigners (or even chinese people from other parts of china) in shanghai. the local shanghai population is quite hostile to outsiders (including other chinese people).
