| | | Plasma TV/Electronics question Does anyone know if I'll have any difficulty using my plasma TV, from the US, in HK?
My concern is the power supply...it's listed as 100-240V, so theoretically it should work, but do I need to worry about it getting fried?
It's not PAL/NTSC compliant, but I'm thinking of bringing it and using it for bit torrent dnlded tv shows and movies, I just don't want to fry the thing...42" computer monitor....better than having it sit in storage for 2 years!

| | | I've had more offers like that than I care to mention!
So does that mean that electronics listing 100-240V will work without going up in a cloud of smoke? I assume that I'll just need an adapter and can then purchase a decent surge protector and all will be fine.

| | | Ah .. in that case, I'd sell it if I were you.
Seriously, the 42 inch plasmas are rapidly approaching commodity ( on the high end ) status and the older ones depreciate a lot, given that there is a quantum leap in quality or technology every six-eight months. I got offered a 42 inch NEC set for about HK$15K ( 1.9K US) a few months ago.
100-240 should be fine, you'll need to change the plug. Surge protection is not really required in most of HK. We've just bought regular power strips with some inbuilt protection in them. Nothing as elaborate as some of the folks in rural US need.

| | | sorry, I'm kind of dense on this whole thing...when you say change the plug, what does that entail? Just adding an adapter or actually cracking the case (this moron ain't doin' that!!!)
I can't imagine I'll ever pay that for a TV...I hardly ever watch, I only have this one b/c I got it for free...but that is an excellent deal on that NEC.

| | | Adding the US style to HK Style adaptor will do just fine. | |

| | | So the power is OK, what about the signal? The poster with the plasma,
Did you ever bring your plasma to HK? I looked at the back of my tv and it does support 220 volts. So I won't have any immediate blow ups. But I thought the trouble would be the fact that most US tv only support NTSC, and HK uses PAL (For TV) and NTSC (for DVD). I read somewhere else that Cable TV uses NTSC? Is that is true, then I should ship my TV over.
