I am a bit thick

So you don't recommend that I bring the plasma over then? My company pays for shipping, so that's not a concern.

Sell it in situ - is my advice. Buy what you need over here. You'll have the ca$h in hand to even buy a secondhand one for HK$10,000 upwards advertised in, as the members of the UK House Of Commons quaintly refer to "Another place".

In this case, another Xpat site in HK. {say no more; nod, nod, wink, wink}.

Sell it. You won't get the value out of it in HK as most cable systems are below US digital standards (I actually think they are analog but someone on this list might know better), and certainly no where near HDTV which is why you'd buy a plasma in the first place.

With the prices on flat screens going down monthy, I'd take the value I could get out of the plasma by selling it, "make do" while you are in Hong Kong, and then consider a new system in a year or two when you are certain that you will be in the same place for the next few years.

As a bittorrent user myself, I should note that the HK government is not the nicest in the world to users of that program.

I did bring mine over, but I only use it for downloaded movies/tv shows and XBox games so I'm not sure whether or not it works with tv, cable or DVD's here.

Most plasmas (well mine and all others I have seen) have an s-video in and PC (RGB - Dsub 15pin and BNC x5 component) monitor in 'ports'. A trip to the wanchai computer centre to get a suitable cable (I going to rely on the fact you guys know what an s-video out socket and a regular 15pin pc monitor out look like, if in doubt look in the a manual and if in real trouble pm me and I'll send a photo of the back of my laptop with said ports labled) and just connect the whole lot up. Enable the second screen in your graphics card setup and away you go. For sound I just run an ear out jack (from the headphone socket) to a set of audio inputs on the surround sound box, which is pretty low tech but it works. Occurs to me that I'm answering a question from the start of last week - sorry been out of town.
