Traffic Points....any help...

Get this...

4 months ago..at 2:30 in the morning...tired and wanting to get home...I get flashed in the eastern Tunnel on my motorcycle...Okay..stupid wasn't paying attention...

turns out i was going 96 kph in what is usually a 80 zone..Unbeknownst to me...the tunnel had some construction going and the speed limit is lowered to 50 kph...

Whick carries a 10 point penalty!!!

I Just got The "notice requiring identification of driver" Letter today!!!
4 FULL months after the Flash...

So crappy followup on the tunnel athorities part aside...

Is there anyway I can appeal and get the penalty reduced?
Don't care about the fine so much as the points.

Tons of "Get Youtr trafic tickets reduced" type lawyer services back in Canada (where I have a spotless record BTW)

Is there a Hong Kong equivilant?

There are no services similar to the one you describe but it is worth your time and effort to prepare a humble and apologetic letter to the Traffic Department. I have done this in the past and it worked.

Any advice as to whom do I address it? And/ or the content therin?

And do I write it now before the ticket is issued or after?
(wich may take months given their follow up history)

hm. i don't think there's a 10-point penalty for "speeding". it's either 3, 5 or 8 points (with a fixed penalty). but in your case, i think you are most likely going to court and be charged with dangerous driving, which can result in a 10-point penalty.

it's highly unlikely that you can get any points reduced. unlike the united states, judges here don't just give out parking tickets or a lowered penalty to replace your offense. unless you can prove yourself completely free of guilty, you're going to be penalized for whatever points the judge says.

so really, there isn't much you can do.

i have never heard of us judges replacing moving violations with parking tickets. they either reduce your fines, find u responsible, or not reponsible. i've been through this mroe than 10 times in the us.

just a question: does a radar (e.g. valentine one) work for the camera laser in hong kong?

Speed camera uses radar, your V-One will be able to detect it (Hong Kong uses Ka-band), and contrary to popular belief it's perfectly legal.

Laser needs someone to point the gun at you. It's almost unbeatable.

I watched an episode of Fifth Gear in which they demonstrated a laser being fooled by some dash-mounted device. Don't know about its legallity.

it's only my first and only ticket in upstate new york that got reduced to a parking ticket. and it wasn't really the judge's decision though i suppose. the cop called me to the side and asked me if i would plead guilty if he reduced it down to a non-moving violation.

Well those are jammers, they are definitely illegal.

I remember they tested 2 laser guns in that episode, the 10-year-old LTI can be beat by the jammer in specific conditions. The newer gun is virtually unbeatable.

Greentea - I think we had the same cop in NY, b/c I was pulled to the side, while in the court waiting room, and was asked by the cop if he could change it to a bald tire infraction!
