Not if you compare quality for quality, and usable area vs usable area (rather than gross sq footage). Even London is cheaper in the rental market.

One thing I need that I can't seem to find here is Hanes wifebeaters. I need to get a pack of 'em and it looks like my only option is to have someone either bring em back for me or send 'em over. Also, if you're a smoker, there are certain American brands that aren't available here (i.e., Newports).

>> Would you special order AND match?

Depends on what you're ordering. We don't match if it involves loosing money.

I really have to disagree with this. NYC is cheaper on a per square foot basis for like quality apartments and Boston is definitely even cheaper.

i pay 1650 usd/month for a 750 ft studio in boston, and i know my friend pays 3000usd/month for a two bed in nyc. property prices increased by a lot in the us from 2000-2003 while they were declining in hk. now both places are around the same now i would say.

To get 750 sq ft of net usable space in HK, you need to rent a 950 sq ft apartment. I find it almost impossible to do that with HK$12,870, again for a like-quality aparment. I'm sure that's doable if you get an apartment in Tai Po.

I used to live in NYC as well and I do agree you can probably get a two-bedroom apartment in NYC for US$3k except that the that NYC apartment probably has closets and again, for the same usable square footage and quality, the same space will probably rent for US$4.5k.

You also didn't mention that property prices in HK have gone up 70% since 2003.

Usable space is key. I have been in some 2000 square foot apartments that seem smaller than 1700 footers.
