>> but i think its possible to start the insurance cover first, wait a while and then go to the doctor,

Some companies will accept chronic / pre-existing conditions after a bit of a waiting period. Best to check with the insurer.

I guess the premium must be very high(HKD2000 and above/month) for that kind of coverage. What do you guys think about evacuation policy? For example, one meets with a terrible road accident in China but requested to be treated in HK. That's very important, right?

Hi KnowItAll,

Do you really mean HKD 6-7K per year? really HKD or USD? We just received our quotation an plan and the rates ranges from USD 4,5K to 2K per year.

I really don't think we're paying that much. But I did check, we're paying more than what I had thought we were (need to increase their ad rates!)

Premier care for 35+ should be in the range of $1500US .. which you can then drop by raising your deductible.

If for example a person has a disease that in his/her own country s/he is entitled to free/almost free regular medication/low cost hospitalisation, but now because s/he is working abroad, s/he would certainly need to find "support" for his/her medication.

In this case, is there any insurance company which provides a policy/service, that would enable this person to continue to receive his/her medication ABROAD at the minimum cost? (of course, I envisage that s/he has to pay a premium)?

Thanks.

Why should they do that? Insurance companies are not charities. They exist to make profits. That means on average they must take more money in than they pay out. Why on earth would they take on business knowing that they would be net payers?

There are some health insurance with savings that if u haven't claimed , u can get some return for u until age 100. It is better for someone who have group health insurance & paid the saving medial insurance premium when working , & used when u need after retired. Of course the premium would be higher than traditional medical insurance.
