At the same time let them user your computer, render some Holliwood animated movies and break RSA based digital certificates, including yours.

be sure you know who you lend your cpu to.

cerberus is an unknown quantity at this point.
sounds like a good cause. hope it's not some world-domination scheme by the illuminati or something.

well, sony tried to classify the PS2 as a computer to avoid import duties in a quite foolish way before already:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2000/11...o_playstation/

while this reason is obsolete nowadays, they still emphasize that the PS3 is rather a computer and not a video game console for some unknown reason:
http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/fe...id=13013&rp=49

but in any case sony and their lawyers have once again proven their unlimited arrogance, confirmed by the judge in the import duties case:
"In my view the skeleton argument filed in this Court on behalf of Sony goes beyond what can be regarded as acceptable written advocacy: it exceeds the bounds of propriety [...] I am not here protesting about its inordinate length, nor about its discursive quality, nor about its frequent and unnecessary resort to hyperbole; although all those unappealing features are present. My concern is with the repeated aspersions that are cast in that document on the intellectual honesty of the High Court Judge from whose decision this appeal is brought,"

therefore, i would not rule out intentions of world-domination at all, even if the medical research is more catchy than the decade old SETI program on private PCs for search of alien radio signals... with no spy-ware detection programs it would be for example easy for sony to collect as much (marketing) data as they want from any PS3 with built-in HDD (how many and which games/players, psp owner or not etc.), when having it connected to the internet 24/7.

And we all know how much of a bad boy Sony has been in terms of installing rootkits and other junk from their CDs.
