Hi,
My name is caroline, I am french and will arrive in HK on april 28th. I am going to be working in Central and am looking for flatmates and an appartement not to far from the central area. I can pay up to 5500 for the rent, am a none smoker and easy going.

Dear Caroline,

Regarding your post on the expat forum I can give you few experiences I made here in HK:

As long as you stay on HK Island the distance is always rather close and can be solved easily and cheap by the MTR, so it does not matter which location you choose (Just take care you are near to some MTR entrance/exit)
(So Central/Admiralty/Wanchai should be all ok for you)

If you don`t find a appartment on time you can use the monthly renting service in some Hotels (nearly 10K HK$ each month) but still better than sitting on the street. (For example "Charterhouse" in Wanchai offers this service)

Acceptable furnished/serviced appartments in good location are around 8K HK$ each month + water/gas/electricity (which is cheap over here, really cheap)

(Take care the building is not "so" old, because in this case also all things are old... like water pipes, electric systems)

So if you find a roommate on 50/50 base it should be no problem for you to keep under your 5500.
