| | | Yes Cantonese is required, unless you have some extremely specialist and unusual technical skills/knowledge. And you would also have great difficulty persuading Immigration to give you an Employment Visa for an IT support job. | |

| | | Depends who you're working for. If you join a western firm then you probably won't need Cantonese, I certainly don't speak any. If you go local then I'd imagine it's a must. | |

| | | But you still need to show why a local IT person couldn't be found to do the same job if you need an Employment Visa. Local IT Support people are very easy to find (and cheap) unless you need very specialist skills/knowledge. The most likely way to secure such a role here would be to work for a multinational in another country, get a couple of years experience of their in-house systems and then come to HK on an intra-company transfer. | |

I was just refering to the Cantonese language question, nothing else. There are plenty more threads about getting work permits, sponsorship etc.. for the OP to look at for that | |

| | | Actually, what kind of support are you talking about Al? Desktop or Application support? If you have appliation support experience with such things as Oracle, Java, etc... it will be a lot easier than if you just rebuild PCs and install software on them | |

| | | would it be ok just to be able to SPEAK cantonese? if you're IT support i cant imagine why reading and writing is essential to the job. do IT staff need to write up reports and stuff? | |

| | | I guess you would need to be able to support Chinese keyboards, Chinese language Windows, and so on, so some familiarity with the written language is going to help... | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 07:40 PM. | |
