| | | Is my pay lower than HK marketing price Hi everyone,
I have 6+ years experience on information technology.
A company wants to hire me as a sub-contractor. The salary is 18K.
Is this too low?
Waiting for your feedback and suggestions. Thanks!

| | | There is no bar on salary really here. In IT I suspect it is an employers market.
I know people getting 35k for jobs in which others are getting 20k. Bear in mind sub-contractors generally don't get MPF, gratuity, medical, housing allowance allocated into the salary etc which could devalue your monthly by 20-25%.

| | | Thanks Lammarite.
I heard the HK employers always ask the current salary, then give several percents raise.
If my current salary is 18k, it must be very hard to negotiate a good salary when I plan to find another job. Is this correct?

| | | 18k sounds very low for 6 yrs experience. Lammarite is correct, although I have heard of some employers actually ask for your previous payment slips, though I think you can "white lie" within reason. | |

| | | If you have to relocate to HK, then 18K is way to low. It is not even enough to get a work visa approved! But if you are a local, then anything from 20K-40K for 6 years experience is the norm. | |
