Hi everyone,

My partner has been offered a job in advertising, Im currently working for a law firm here in London as a Senior Support analyst. I have a degree and have been in IT 8 years, TCP/IP,Windows XP,2000,NT,98, Citrix, etc.. Can anyone tell me whether the job prospects are good for me to join her ?

Any advice would be much appriciated.. Oh I also play a bit of Rugby.. Would love a club if anyone knows one..

Thanks Again

Al

Am afraid I can't help with the job advice- but can with the rugby!
There is an amateur league in HK, with matches ever Saturday; the league starts again in October, although there will be friendlies/tournaments in September as a start to the league.
My husband plays for Causeway Bay, and they regard both rugby and the partying afterwards as serious as each other!
But there are so many clubs to play for, and each club has many different divisions within them.
I would reccomend checking out, www.hkrugby.com

Al - take a search for posts by Jimbo - he's ex-Big 4 (Deloitte) IT support from London. To summarise, he didn't find it easy to find jobs here in your line (not at decent rates anyway). Jimbo's actually back in London at the moment - maybe you could hook up with him for a beer and discuss face to face...

When I was looking at the beginning of the year, there were a lot of IT jobs in banking. I'd come out from London and the rates were slighly (about 10% less) after a simple currency conversion but ignoring the big tax difference. I was trying to get *out* of IT at the time and it was a bit annoying that every agent I spoke to was trying to get me back into banking IT

Not sure what it's like in the legal industry though.

Guys,

Many Thanks for this info. It's great. I have been thinking of getting into Banking IT for a while. Just needed to get a few years Legal in London first, was something i fell into.. But Maybe Banking is an option.. The other option is the G/F gets a good position and she can then keep me in the manner im accustom to !!!

Im looking to go down the Citrix route if possible..

Banking IT tends to be fairly insular, not real easy to get into without prior industry experience or a damn convincing CV. The hours here really tend to suck if you're on the sysadmin/infra side too (far more so than in London).

Still, that's where the money is...
