Question Living on Lantau Lamma..

I'm arriving in HK in a few days and looking to rent out on either Lamma or on the eastern side of Lantau (Mui Wo/Silvermine etc). I've read through a few threads on this forum and others and am planning to head out and have a look at whats around as soon as I arrive (living in temp accommodation for the first little while). Hoping to find something a little more laid back (and cheaper) than living in Central.

What I want to know is does anyone know of any tricks for finding village houses for rent? Especially in Mui Wo, Lamma and whether there's many around? I'm going to check out the local estate agents etc, I just want to see if any of you locals have any tips that might make life easier. Do owners tend to list in the newpaper classifieds?

Of course if anyone has or know's of one to rent, let me know.

Any advice much appreciated.

there aren't usually listings in the paper for village houses on the islands. you have to go to the agents.

the rentals are so cheap it would probably cost 2 weeks rent to advertise in the paper!

In the case of Lamma there are real estate agents as you go into the village and they will show you round places. There are no websites dedicated to property but www.lamma.com.hk may help you with some of your other questions.

Thanks Carang, Lammarite. I'll just go through estate agents as planned I think. Just thought I'd check to see I wasn't missing any other avenues for finding places other than the obvious.
