Exclamation How to dispose unwanted furniture when i move out??

Hi all,

Wondering how i should go about disposing my furniture when we leave Hong Kong in Sept... The apartment we're moving to in Shanghai is fully furnished and we will not be needing any of the stuff we have here.

Do we have to find a removal company or call a government disposal unit to dispose our bed (should we be unable to sell it before we leave)?

Any advice would be most helpful

This is also for anyone who wants a 7-month old rattan IKEA bed, wooden TV rack, 2 foot stools, 2 mobile round tables, plates, bowls, utensils, sound system, shoe rack x 3. Some are absolutely free and mainly new from IKEA - Contact me cos they're looking for a good home 98034460 Danelle

Try crossroads in Hong Kong!! It's a charity organisation and they are always wiling to accept furniture. Will even send a van over and get people to take away the goods from you. Give it a google search. I think it might be www.crossroads.org.hk or something like that.

These people are ultra nice and amazing so if there are some things you can't sell off, give them a try.

Hope this information helps!

Er, no. They are happy to recommend a transport company, but they won't pay to take your stuff away...

It's as good a place as any to send your stuff if it's things they want and you can't sell it. Check against their list here: http://www.crossroads.org.hk/help/goods/list

I went to their website and it seems like my bed is under the "We do not need these" list of items.

Has anyone contacted them before?

Yes - I have sent stuff to them. But their website is very clear about what they do and don't want and is regularly updated.

It's not uncommon practice in Hong Kong for people just to leave bits of furniture that they can't be bothered to deal with in the apartment for the next tenants to use or dispose of.
