Hi, We bought a fab bakelite phone and would like to convert it to use.

thanks!

It should just work (unless HK doesn't use pulse dialing anymore, which you should check).

I am assuming that it's 1) got the right plug and you have plugged it into the wall and 2) it's a HK phone. If it's from some random country, it might be tricky. I had a Belgian bakerlite phone in the UK and couldn't get it wired correctly.

Depend on the jack type, you should be able to find a converter in the shops.

If I read correctly, the problem is that it doesn't have any type of jack at all - it is the old fashioned "hard-wired" type that were connected directly to the line terminating box.

Yep thats right. No jack at all.
I have seen some old phones that have been changed for use in some "antique" stores on Hollywood road. (Very expensive!)
So I am sure it can be done
I asked them but they told me that they get the phones already converted.
Anyone with knowledge of how we could do it ourselves?

If you know what model it is and where it originally came from then you might be able to pick up a converter kit on eBay or somewhere.

Here's an example, but you really need to know what model you have: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BAKELITE-TELEP...QQcmdZViewItem

if i rem what i had when i was young, a dial type phone has only 2 lines. just the two middle line of the current jacks.

try connect that 2 lines to the plug and see how it goes.
but u obviously cannot do alot of things like ordering pizza, any of the phone transaction stuffs (banking, booking, etc.etc)

if the hk teleco circuit still support the old trigger pulse codes for dial tone, then it shld work i guess
