Looking for an apartment in HK

What are the best ways to go about looking for an apartment in Hong Kong? Websites? Anyone ever use gohome.com.hk? Is it reliable? I see plenty of listings on that site, but many of them seem too good to be true. Newspapers? Does the SCMP publish a weekly real estate section?

How does it work with real estate agents/agencies here? Do they charge commission? Finder's fee?

Are there any websites that are similar to www.craigslist.com? (a U.S. based website where owners and tenants can post ads for their apartments).

What about neighborhoods to live in? I'm looking for a young, fun, hip area on HK Island. What areas would be comparable to the East Village/Lower East Side in NYC?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

www.freelord.com is a good one- just the like one you described.
But alas, since most Honkies are Chinese- most ads are in Chinese as well. Are you looking to share a place? When?

Hi there,

I have tried that gohome.com.hk before, but most of the time, all the 'good deals' are gone when I ring up and they try to 'sell' you something else!

Are you looking for a long or short lease? A friend of mine is looking for someone to takeover the lease of her fully furnished, one double-bed roomed apartment near Bonham Road and Park Road junction.

Flat share in HK

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi guys!

Oh well, just'd like to know if you had any idea, advice to find a share flat in HK island (Sheung Wan, Central, Tin Hau, Causeway Bay, Mid-levels, Wan chai.. ).
I guess it's pretty hard to find one.
I've been looking for a place for a while (asiaxpat, geoxpat, anywhere...), I don't find anything.
So could you please give me a hand, see around if anyone is looking for a flatmate / flatshare (english speaker)
anything that could help!
BTW my budget rent is around 4,000 up to 6,500 HK$

Hope to hear from you soon, I need a place to stay urgently!

Thanks a lot!

Smile Gateway Apartments

Hi,

Is anyone staying at the Gateway Apartments in Harbour City? I heard this is a really well managed Serviced Apartment. I would like to hear from someone staying there what they think of the rooms, the people, the price, the overall atmosphere?

Will appreciate your kind comments.

My advice would be not to restrict yourself to HK island, but take a look at the New territories. There is a premium one has to pay for renting on HK island usually which, based on my 6 years in HK (3 of which on HK island), is not worth it.
Depending on budget, areas like Fei Ngo Shan, Gold Coast, Sai Kung, Sham Tseng are worth looking at. You ll save on your rent and can use the difference for a car and car park. With a car, HK is a totally new place, and you can really have the full territory as playground.

Hello,

I am a French student of 23 years old and I am coming to HK at the end of april until september to carry out an internship at the Intercontinental Hotel. I am looking for a flat share so I'm interested in your proposition. Is the room still available? And how much is it for one month?

Thank you very much.
