Camping?

Hey people,

Having grown up in a rural part of Canada, I was fortunate enough to have a national park about a 45 minute drive from my parent's house. Anyway, now that I'm in HK I really miss camping. Don't get me wrong, I'm hardly an outdoorsman (the national park made camping a breeze, and my friends usually did all the hard stuff while I supervised ), but I wouldn't mind setting up a tent somewhere and roasting hotdogs over a fire for a couple of nights. Any ideas? I was thinking Sai Kung might have something to offer, or one of the outlying islands. I'd even be up for a renting a 'chalet' or cabin in the woods if it didn't cost a fortune.

Has anyone been camping here? Oh yeah...I'd guess I'd have to buy the equipment too, unless some place provided rental tents. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Laowai, you can go camping at Tai Long Wan or the other Big Wave Bay over at Sai Kung. They rent tents out from the seafood restaurant on the beach for approx $100HKD from memory. It's a really gorgeous spot, camping on the beach.

Here's a site that gives you all the directions http://www.hkoutdoors.com/new-territ...-sai-kung.html

Have a good time, I loved it there, feels more like Australia than Hong Kong

I don't think there's anywhere in HK where a country park is more than about 20 mins drive! And plenty of campsites provided...

Hey guys,

Thanks for the information. I had to laugh after I posted. See, in Canada, a 45 minute drive is nothing. But then I started thinking about Hong Kong and how you can be surrounded by skyscrapers one minute, and then in a small fishing village a short while later. This place is pretty convient. That's one of the reasons I like living here.

although with the heat, you couldn't PAY me to camp out...maybe wait until it's cooler, like december-march...that would be much more tolerable!

you'd think they would, especially in HK...

camping here in the summer would be a nightmare for me. just like the chinese style bbq where they all sit around with their pathetic little fork and their hot dog and chicken wing perched precariously off the end, gathered around the smoky, hot fire.... all of this when it's 32 degrees outside!!!!!!! yikes! not my idea of fun!

give me western bbq any day of the week!

Yep, with you on the Chinese BBQs, not only do you get cooked yourself, but you end up still hungry at the end of it all.

had to remove the rocks and cover with tin foil and put regular charcoal into it... jsut waiting for dinner to slow roast as we speak!

You definitely don't want to be camping at this time of year. A beach might be ok, but Hong Kong is snake city in the summer
