Hi there,

I'm going to be moving to HK from Canada with my family in about a year or so. My wife and I were there about a month ago and we were able to get out to Discovery Bay. We really like the "resort"- style aspect of DB beacause we think it will be a more comfortable transition for our kids.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any in-sight into the primary school at DB?

Also, we didn't get a chance to do much research into Tung Chung (Caribbean Coast, Seaview , etc.). We want to live in an area that is outside of the city, somewhat quiet, and has a larger amount of expats (especially kids). Are those developments as "resort-like" and quiet as DB? Most importantly: are there schools in the immediate area and how do they compare to the schools in Discovery Bay?

currently there are two primary schools in Db with another one being built as i write this.

Discovery Bay International School has a waiting list (depending on the age of your child) and a large debenture. if you can afford the larger debenture you can by-pass the waiting list.

there is also a local (chinese medium of instruction) school. i can't tell you very much about this school.

there are a bunch of local schools in Tung Chung. There is also sunshine house. but i don't know if that's just a kindergarten or if there is a primary school there too.

Can you give me an idea of exactly how much these debentures are? We are carrying out our sums to see whether moving our four children from Sydney to HK would be worth it. I thought finding a place to live would be the tricky thing. It appears the availability of schooling is going to dictate everything else. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

if you contact discovery bay international school, they can let you know all of the details. i've heard various numbers thrown around, but my son is not old enough for school yet, so i'm not sure of the exact figures. sorry.
