Your best bets are the US Embassy ( www.usconsulate.org.hk ) or the American Women's Association ( www.awa.org.hk ) . They may have appropriate contacts into some organisations that might be able to help you.

One more thing. Look for some courier companies... we've been getting emails from some of them who do courier flights for $500 / person to LAX or San Fran. Not sure if you can take kids, pets or the amount of personal baggage you can take with you.

The US citizen services may be able to point you in the right direction, incase they're aware of any programs or federal funds which may be available to you.

The American Women's Association may also be able to point you to a sympathetic source of funds that might be able to help. They also have connections with the major American Airlines and corporations and might be able to put a string or two for you, given your situation.

Best of luck.

Because, it sounds like they didn't save for a rainy day, nor did they put aside some emergency funds 'incase' a time arise when leaving is the best option. Having a family, and no government aid and no money in Hong Kong is really hard! Even for the designated native. So for a ex-pat, it's gonna be even harder... thank fully i don't fall in this category.

For everything i earn, i save no less than 35%, plus i keep a foreign currency account for 'home clients'. I can happily say, i can survive in HK for over one year without employment should i loose my job.

Wait a minute, I work freelance... how am i gonna loose my job?
