Just tryna survive the night!

Hello Everyone,

I'll be in Hong Kong for 6 nights and 5 days starting on Thursday, August 17. I'm from NYC and my girlfriend is from Osaka. We`re both 21 and coming from Tokyo.

Anyway, I have a hotel reserved for 5 nights. The first night though, I don't plan on doing the hotel thing, so it means that we'll plan on staying up all night (our flight arrives around 10 pm, so we'll just take the train or bus right into town.) and find a bar or restaurant open all night long and chill there until morning.

Any reccomendations of places open all night? What's the scene like? I'm a complete stranger to it, so any help would be appreciated. Thank You very much.

You can go to Dusk Till Dawn in Wanchai. It's suppose to be open 24/7 but I think they might actually close down at 6am (never stayed there THAT long). Then if you get tired of that you can hop over to The Flying Pan, a 24hr diner also in Wanchai. The food's not the best, but they are open 24/7 and have some comfy couches and a pretty good jukebox. =)

Enjoy your visit!

PS - don't know how much you know about HK, but take the Airport Express Train and then transfer to the MTR to Wanchai station. Take Exit C at Wanchai station and there are tons of bars actually.

Dusk Till Dawn 76 Jaffe Road, Wanchai
Flying Pan 3/F 81-85 Lockhart Road, Wanchai (corner of Lockhart and Luard)

Actually The Flying Pan is good if you like a greasy fried breakfast.
A little further along the road is the Old China Hand which is an all-night bar. You will often see very drunk westerners slumped over a lady of the night from one of the nearby girlie bars.

I will not try to figure out why you would want to be homeless on your first night here;so next question would be-
Do you have a safe place for your luggage, while you are tripping the light fantastic?
Even if you do I would suggest spending the wee hours at the airport.
The left luggage is right there and the Regal hotel is near in case you run out of joints.

You can maybe check in your luggage at the hotel. Call in advance to see if that is possible, then u can party the nite away.

Thanks for the concern guys and girlies, but I only plan on carrying one duffel or book bag. I'm sure I can bring that into any bar or especially a diner.

I'm not afraid of being a casualty of the streets either (I'm from Queens, New York City), so it's not mandatory that I find a safe haven. I think I'll be fine.

This "forced situation" will allow me to both save money on the hotel and also to have an extra night out on the town.

Any other reccomendations are welcome too, thanks everyone.

I dont think you have a saftey issue. BTW there are no "Fat Nicks" here that will beat someone with a baseball bat and steal their Nikes. Maybe if you are walking around really iced out it could be trouble but I doubt it. Plus 5-0 is not gonna pull an Amadou Diallo on you. 5-0 in HK doesnt seem to have the us versus them combat mentaility as they do in NYC.

Wouldnt it be smarter to check in after arrival and roam the streets on your last day. At least if it comes down to having no place you can hang out at the airport.

Hi, there. I'm visiting from the US for two weeks and am interested in some possible late-night clubbing during the week (though the way I keep waking up early, my sleep schedule mightn't oblige). Anyway, if the two of you want company, I'll be glad to head out to the Island on Thursday evening. I would like to check out The Wanch based on stuff I've read, but beyond that, I'm open to suggestions. Don't know if you're into beer, but I did find a remarkable selection at Hong Kong Brew in LKF yesterday. Still, unless I've got some company, I'm pretty well bound to getting the last bus back to Tai Po by midnight most days. I'm not yet 100% sure I'm comfortable trying to stay out until 6 a.m. by myself (maybe by next week).

Anyone else inclined for a late-nighter midweek outing? nifty, want to make Thursday the official pubcrawling night?

Notice the date in the post. They came in August. They are long gone.
