I'm hoping to get some advice if possible.
My wife and I are moving to Hong Kong, me in a week or so and she a month or so later. The reason she's coming later is to finish up with selling our house and because of the temperature restrictions on shipping our pets over.
I'm going to be looking for a flat for the two of us and our two dogs and one cat. We're hoping to find a low floor location with a small yard/garden area. Second best would be a building with some green areas or a very nearby green area. We've heard that Discovery Bay is a good bet for the dogs and we've been trying to see what's available there. Are there any other areas that are about as good or better for dogs in the HK area?
We're hoping for something at least 1000 sq foot and in the 20-25,000 per month range. Of course cheaper would be better. That and having relatively easy access to Central where my office is. Ferry or train is perfectly fine with me.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
If you are intent on DiscoBay :-) then I can pm you an agent I have used for several years otherwise you could consider Sai Kung or Clearwater Bay. You can rent two-storey village-style houses with small gardens and a car park space.
Agree with Discobay....Discovery Bay, Sai Kung, Clearwater Bay are all good areas for pets if you want plenty of outdoor space. You can also look at Park Island (seen quite a few pet owners out there). Keep in mind these areas are a little out of town so expect some commuting to central by train or ferry.
There's also plenty of people with pets closer to town such as Mid-Levels (access to parks such as Peak area and Bowen Road where you can walk the dog), but apartments here are a little pricier and probably no downstairs yard.
I've heard Clearwater Bay and Sai Kung are good areas for pets but I don't see any MTR stations in those areas. Is this true? We won't have a car while in HK.
Also what about Lamma Island? I've heard it would be pet friendly too but I can't seem to find any real information on it or properties.
A pet friendly area on the island would be ideal since I'll be working in Central near Mid-Levels but I'm afraid it would be too hard to find a nice place that accepts animals AND is very near grassy areas.
My husband & I are moving to Hong Kong at the end of October and will be looking for pet friendly areas. I heard that Pokfulam is pet friendly with large areas of green where dogs can run around. Does anyone know if that's true? Any dog owners out there living in Pokfulam?
We will be moving to Hong Kong from Singapore in Jan/Feb next year and taking our Golden Retriever with us. We plan to live in the Bel-Air Residence in Pokfulam, Hong Kong Island mainly because the estate is pets friendly. There are some restrictions like dogs must use the service lifts and not the regular lifts. And two complaints or more about your dog will bar him/her from the estate.
Park Island is very pet friendly too. You may see so many dog-lovers and dogs in the open area of the estate if you visit the place.
Even if pets are allowed to be kept like in Park Island, usually there is a clause in the deed of mutual covenant binding all residents that pets may be kept in the residential units unless they become a cause of reasonable written complaint by at least 2 occupiers. It is prudent to check the deed or the management office first.
