The Smart ID Card Replacement Exercise rolls on with those persons born in 1962 or 1963 directed to step up to the line for replacement ID card issuance.
Phase 4 of the Replacement Exercise started on March 15 and will last until May 22. Applicants can book an appointment by calling 1838333 or on-line at

If applicants' ID cards bear the "A" or "***" residential symbol, or were issued on or after January 1, 1999 and bear the "R" residential symbol, they only need take their ID cards. Other applicants should take their travel documents showing their residential status in Hong Kong, in addition to their ID cards.
The Replacement Exercise covers all residents in Hong Kong, irrespective of immigration status and includes foreign domestic helpers.
For those born between 1964 and 1969 and who have not yet replaced their ID cards time is running out. Failure to apply for a new ID card within the specified period without reasonable excuse is an offence. Offenders may be prosecuted and could be liable to a fine of $5,000. However, those who are away from Hong Kong during the specified period should apply within 30 days of their return to Hong Kong.
