| | | Pixels going on LCD Monitor Hello Listfolk
I have recently purchased, in the last 2 months, a new LG 19" LCD PC Monitor for use at home. I noticed about a week or so ago one pixel was always blue. I thought what the hell, not worth worrying about one pixel, even if it is a bit annoying when watching video and the screen is dark.
The other day I noticed another pixel has now become permanently red. Again, I am not too bothered about 2 pixels but of course I am worrying if in a year my monitor will not be working properly.
Anyone had a similar experience? Do I try to get it fixed? I am sure that the manufacturer will tell me to sling my hook over 2 pixels but is this a symptom of further problems?
Am I worrying about all this too much?
PS Other than the 2 funny pixels the LG monitor is very nice!

| | | that's dead pixels.
these days they are not so common. depending on guarantee by the manufacturer, some will change your LCD if u have 5 dead pixels. some will change if any one of the pixels in the middle of the screen dies..etc..

| | | Thanks guys
My question, though, is does it matter? ie does this mean in a year, say, the problem will be a lot worse?
Or does 'x' not necessarily lead to 'y'? I really can't be arsed trying to make a warranty claim over 2 dead pixels.

| | | At 19" your monitor should have 1280*1024 pixels that is 1,310,720 pixels. It all depends on how many dead pixels you are willing to put up with. Assuming 1% is your threshold that is 13,107 pixels then at a failure rate of 1 a day you still have 35.91 years to go! Ofcourse, all of what I have said is complete b*****ks if the dead pixels are in the centre of the screen. Still I enjoyed the maths exercise thanks. | |

| | | The guy at the store assured me my new PC was futureproof for at least the next 50 years! I thought he was exaggerating. | |

| | | I think he would be honest if he had said 10 years (for monitors). | |

| | | monitors ? nah. 3 years ?
even LCDs i doubt they will last that long.
but again, there are manufacturers guaranteeing life time no deadpixels i think... not sure how that works though. definitely not a 1-for-1 exchange. i suppose their bet is that somewhere else in the monitor will break down before one of their pixels remains high too often.

| | i believe it's samsung that offers a no dead pixel policy...
on another note, why don't you give this a try. there are two types of flaws on an lcd screen. a dead pixel or a stuck pixel.
see more info here and there's a tutorial on how to try to remedy a stuck pixel which is probably what that new pixel is that you've noticed. http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Stuck-P...an-LCD-Monitor

| | | Not sure about 3 years. Remember we're talking about the technology and not the reliability. LCD monitors have been available to the general public since the late 90s and are now selling strong. There is nothing new on the market that would threaten it's position. Heck there's nothing even in the pipeline. As a salesman I would have quoted 10 years but then ... uhmm I'm not.
