| | | I'm buying the x60 Thinkpad I have been following the computer threads and made my research and finally made up my mind to buy the Thinkpad x60. I am looking for a ultraportable, built durable, with good Wifi, WLAN connection and in the 10000 range.
Is there anyone contrary to my decision that suggests something better? It's my first Thinkpad, will I get used to their red TrackPoint?
Any comments are welcome.
cheers,

Other than that .. it has a top notch rep.

A couple of us on here have the X31 - mine is a 1.5GHz Pentium M with 1GB RAM, 802.11b/g networking. OK it is a little slower than the latest Core Duo processors but it does everything I need well - even Photoshop CS2 runs fine on it. I picked it up for about 7000 last year.
If you are a photographer note the X3n series has a Compact Flash card slot whereas they switched to SD-card slots after that. Also check whether Bluetooth is included if its important to you.
As for the TrackPoint I'm a huge fan - hate using track/touchpads!

| | | Our company bought 6 of these notebooks. They are great!
The X60 is a bit heavier than the X40 notebook - that is because it has the 8 cell battery which can last around 6 hours if not more.
One thing I didn't like was that the power adaptor has changed - the old IBM Thinkpad power adaptor won't work with the X60. I guess it's a Lenovo thing.
Overall, a great notebook.

| | | The X60 is cheaper by a few hundred US$ in the US if you are able to get an institutional discount. I havent priced it agressively since not in the market for a notebook but based on casual price comps in MongKok etc. you might find a better deal in the USA assuming that is where you are from. | |

| | | Martyn - tell me about the adaptors! We have 2 thinkpads and 4 IBM power adapters strategically placed around our flat - very pi**ed that Lenovo have now changed them after so many years - particularly since the Core Duo is efficient so don't see why a change was required. OK, I know its a small thing really but its unneccessary - and not very environmentally friendly.
KIA - I think all the XGA screens on the X-series are matt finish but I could be wrong. The X60 I saw in WCC (for about 12xxx new) was matt.

| | | Thinkpad is a great way to go. I've used Lenovo a couple of times for repairs to my T41* and they had <24 hour turnaround times and incredibly friendly engineers.
* on the downside, the T41 appears to have a known design flaw which sees the video fail if you carry it by one corner too often!

| | thanks everyone for the opinions.
I also like the anti-glare screen and the x60 I saw has just that.
I'll go on Sunday to get it at WCC, getting as a giveaway at least the update from 512 to 1G RAM for the advertised price (10280).
